I know it's fall when my shoes change.

What?

Yup. You heard me.

I don't necessarily notice the first chilly morning or the first changing leaf. But suddenly, I'm standing in my closet thinking, “I want different shoes.”

That's when I know. Fall is coming.

There's something about changing your shoes that can completely change an outfit. Take the dress you've been wearing all summer. Add a loafer, ankle boot or sneaker and suddenly it feels ready for September.

You haven't changed your entire wardrobe. You've simply changed the foundation of your outfit.

And that's one of my favorite things about transitional style.

Especially in Wisconsin, fall doesn't exactly arrive on schedule. One day it's 78 degrees and sunny, and the next you're reaching for a sweater. So instead of putting away your entire summer wardrobe, start adding a few fall pieces.

Think summer dress + jacket + loafers.
Denim + lightweight top + ankle boots.
Skirt + sweater + sneakers.

And this fall, we're especially loving two shoes you'll want to wear on repeat: our rich chocolate suede knee-high bootsand our leopard booties. The chocolate suede adds that gorgeous fall texture and warmth, while leopard is basically a neutral in our book. Both can take you from denim to dresses and give your wardrobe an instant fall refresh.

You don't need a whole new wardrobe. You need new ways to wear the wardrobe you already have.

And sometimes, all it takes is the shoes.

That's what we love about personal styling at Cloudy Skies Design. We'll help you find the pieces that make your wardrobe work harder—and have a little fun while we're at it.

Because there's a moment when you put on your favorite jeans, a sweater and those shoes you've been waiting all summer to wear.

You step outside.

The air feels different.

And you think:

Oh. It's fall.

So yes, I know it's fall when my shoes change.

And if you see me reaching for loafers, boots and a little more texture, you'll know exactly what's happening.

Fall has arrived.
